UNC Women's Rugby was established as a club sport in 1993 by Tasha Heeler and Caroline Heller. Initial budget constraints were overcome when it was discovered that a team had briefly existed in the 80s, leaving behind enough funds to redeclare a club. Since its resurrection in 1993, the UNCWRFC has become one of the premier women's rugby programs in the South and has appeared in the Division I Sweet 16 five out of the last nine years. The team boasts many accomplished alumni, including All American Emily Pratt (Second team 2003, First team 2006), All American Kira Cervenka (First team 2004-5), All American and US 7s National player Katie Lorenz (Second team 2010, 2011-present), U20 National team winger Holly Zoeller (2010-11), and All American and professional US 7s National player Kimber Rozier (First team 2011, 2011-present). Team Achievements include: USA Rugby South Regional Champions (2011, 2010, 2009), Rucktoberfest Champions (2010), and State Champions (2009, 2008, 2005, 2001) UNC Women's Rugby is devoted to teamwork, camaraderie, and sisterhood. Our goal is to shape our players into strong athletes that will share their love of rugby and continue to play even after graduation. We currently seek to win our conference and make it to the Elite Eight this year.
